The Old 96er
Who remembers The Great Outdoors movie? The one with Dan Aykroyd and John Candy. As one of my favorites, I remember it well. We all remember when “Chet” conquers the Old 96er. Yes, a 96 oz steak. Can you even imagine the aftermath of that? Besides, the rock gut that you would feel for days afterwords. Gross! I’m here to tell you a similar story.
Last Thursday was National Cheeseburger Day. In true New Mexican fashion, my daughter was challenged by her boyfriend, Wes, to an Cheeseburger eating competition. Actually, I signed her up for it, knowing she would kick some butt. It wasn’t a timed event. It was all in weight. The deal was, she couldn’t eat a 1lb. hamburger. She had to eat the bun, and finish the burger. She made her Momma proud that day. The event went something like this.
We decided to go to 3Rivers for this small challenge. 3Rivers is a small local brewery we like to go to. They didn’t have a 1 lb. patty on the menu, so we had to opt for two- 1/2 lb. patties on one burger. In this picture, the two of them had just ordered their lunch. Clearly, Wes has his game face on, and Meagan is wondering what the hell her Mom signed her up for.
There they are, in all their glory. 1 lb. That’s a lot of meat. Let’s compare 1 lb to 1 lb. That would be 660 peanut M & M’s. That would be two feather pillows, 20 doggy treats, 114 mini marshmallows, 44 fruit snacks, 180 pennies, and about 5 bananas. Let’s compare calories. There are about 1152 calories in a 1 lb hamburger, this does not include condiments. That’s about 23 cups of coffee with cream and sugar. That’s 16 cups of raw cherries. I think you are getting the picture. Yes?
Here she is with the last bite of the first half. Look at the burger on her plate. That bad boy is freaking pink in the middle. That is not okay. Do you like your hamburgers well done or with pink? I like my burgers, steak, sausage, bacon, anything WELL DONE. No exceptions. 🙂
There is the last bite. There is Wes saying…”That’s not the last bite. You still have pickles, and lettuce on your plate.” Hence The Great Outdoors reference. Does it actually stay down? Take a look at the next picture.
We were not sure if it was going to stay down. Wes is scrambling to get out of her way. It was so, so close, but she held it down like a champ!
Still chewing the last bite. It stayed with her for a bit. So imagine moving around 25 pennies in your mouth for a few minutes, maybe that’s what if felt like. Or not….. haha! Bottom line. She went from regular, cute girlfriend to BADASS mother girlfriend. Yes?
What are some of your favorite movies? Do you ever let your kids watch movies with you? Popcorn or Kettle Corn? Peanut M & M’s or regular?
